Glazing

glazing.jpg

Displaying your art over the long term especially in direct sunlight may put it at risk from UV radiation causing fading colours, yellowing paper and some substrates becoming brittle. The effects are irreversible.

Most glass blocks UV radiation to some extent but the more harmful wavelengths are still able to pass through. However, for artwork hung indoors and out of direct sunlight the risk is fairly minimal.

We will usually quote for standard 2mm glass and this is by far the most common choice.

If artwork is precious or valuable and UV protection is desired we recommend the use of ClearColour 90% UV protected Museum glass. The obvious benefit is the UV protection yet the more notable benefit is its appearance.

ClearColour has such low reflective properties that it appears almost invisible. Most people aren't aware of the glazing until they touch it and leave a fingerprint. It also has superior clarity and light transmission compared to normal glass which has a greenish hue.

The cost of such glazing can be prohibitive. Therefore, we also offer an alternative, ??claryl, with the same low reflective properties but without the additional UV protection.
